As a young one I was a huge fan a baseball.  HUGE.  I played, I enjoyed, I collected… I really enjoyed it.  Around 1992 my enjoyment of the sport – all aspects of the sport – simply stopped.  I’m not sure why but it just vanished.

Yea, I remember watching Cal Ripken break Lou Gehrig’s consecutive-games played record.  I wasn’t really excited about it; I simply figured it was some form of history in the making so why not watch?  There was the whole Mark McGwire/Sammy Sosa home run race in 1998 that tickled my fancy once again, but I couldn’t really get back into it for some reason. The 2003 Cubs season changed a lot of that as it was the first time I felt the excitement and passion once again. While it did not come close to what I had in my childhood, it was back all because of the lovable losers, the Cubs.

I don’t really watch the games on TV, nor do I go to Wrigley to catch an afternoon outing.  I tend to catch the highlights on ESPN or check into Cubs.com everyone once and awhile… but there is still something in me that gains great enjoyment from the sport, something that makes me say I’m a Cubs fan…

I’m glad the season is here.  Maybe this will be the year…

Doc Ellis, the 12 year MLB veteran died of a liver issue on Friday at the age of 63. If you were never a hardcore fan of baseball, chances are you have no clue who he was.  Not a superstar pitcher, like that of Nolan Ryan or Tom Seaver, Ellis was a solid player.  His record was 138 and 119 when he ended his career.

The big accomplishment he is remember for is throwing a no hitter…. while on LSD…..

Having never done LSD I have no clue what a person would experience, but I do know it’s hard enough to throw a strike in baseball let alone even think about pitching while under the influence of a hallucinogenic. It’s not exactly a drug I would expect to be performance enhancing, I wonder if they test for that these days…

Makes one wonder what other athletes where under the influence of some illicit substance while making history.

I mean, really… The Chicago Cubs had the best record the National League and their “magical” season ended in three suck-ass games with the final being a 3-1 loss in L.A.

This is quite sad….

With a 93 and 60 record, the Cubs just beat the St. Louis Cardinals to clinch a post-season spot.  This is the first time in a century the Cubs have back to back play off seasons.

Is the World Series next?
