Based on news reports I’ve seen over the last few days I was aware Ted Kennedy was facing deteriorating health due to his cancer.  Like most, I don’t think I was expecting his passing so soon.

The family of Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy announced Tuesday night that youngest brother of the dynastic political family has died at 77.

Kennedy, diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in May 2008, had suffered deteriorating health in recent months.

“We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,” a family statement said. “We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all.”

With Ted’s passing the last “Camelot” brothers is gone. An era of historic U.S. politics has ended with his death. If you agreed with his positions or not, you have to give Mr. Kennedy his due respect.
