Out of curiosity what web sites were you browsing when that *cough cough* jazz *cough cough* banner popped up?

I was off at an electronic music site. I don’t recall which, not beatportal, but another major site. The thing caught me so off guard I didn’t even know what to make of it. My first reaction was to take a screen shot, the second was to grab it.

Just so… Seriously… at a loss for words.

What’s wrong with it?

Well, I think there are two things wrong with it:

1) It’s ineffective marketing. While we are sitting here talking about banner (good on their part) I honestly cannot tell you what the banner is for (bad on their part). I cannot get past the “shock” value that I experience when looking at it. Thus, it makes for a poor ad.

2) I have a problem with shock simply for the sake of shock (in this case a basically nude person). If one is trying to make a point with the shock, I can understand and agree. But flaunting something for attention is very…unrefined.
