The other day I found a story over at Write Out of Depression that talked about a new treatment for depression:

The US Food and Drug Administration has now approved the use of a technique that uses strong magnets for “treatment resistant” major depression… The new treatment is TMS or transcranial magnetic stimulation…What does the patient feel? Not a thing…and no memory loss

My initial reaction was “wow, I wonder how safe that is”.

Electromagnetic Fields, also known by EMF, have been shown to increase leukemia, brain tumors, and male breast cancer.  The amount of exposure one has to intense EMF would determine the impact on the human body, and if there would be a higher chance of cancer.

Yes, the level of EMF exposure may be low in this treatment, but if the groundwork is already in place – that is to say, we know such exposure could increase the risk on other parts of the human body – is it really safe to subject one of the most critical organs to that risk?

I don’t claim to have any detailed knowledge of this test, or the effects of EMF exposure; it simply makes me ask the question. Ultimately, if depression is ruling your life and no matter what you had tried thus far has failed, it may be worth looking into.

I’ve heard of this, too, but have to admit I’m pretty skeptical about it.

I’m all for someone trying what they need but this seems…. like a “scam” to me. Not only that, the health concerns appear to outweigh benefits.

That is only on first look, I don’t know the specifics around it… just seems wrong.
